i started making this at like 4 am LOL anyways enjoy my shitty list or whatever XDDDDDddd
Can be incredibly stable and fast if you choose the right distro and don't end up breaking your installation from being a fucking idiot
It's incredibly customizable. You can customize and swap out almost everything from your init system to idk your desktop environment to the extreme. Windows simply pales in comparison with it's "one size fits most" design that works well for a majority of people but never lets people create their own ultra comfy and productive setups. Leaving power users with no choice but to gunk up their system with many background-running applications to
Respects the user; Linux and most FOSS / FLOSS software tends to expect the user to be competent enough to learn their way around the software in questiom
Installing software is fast and efficient when you use a package manager either directly or using a graphical fronten
Maintainers usually actually give a shit about feedback from users
Drivers are included in the kernel. No more hunting down drivers like on Windows (with exceptions of course, but having to manually install drivers on Linux is a rare occurance)
Almost the entirety of what makes up a Linux distro can be compiled for your hardware's capabilities to maximalize performance
It's (for like 99.99% of distros) FREEE!!!! (as in free beer) NO MORE ILLEGAL ACTIVATION USING MAS!!! And it (again,
for 99.99% of distros) gives the user FREEEDOOOM!!! (as in being libre)
As a user your ability to contribute to Linux is (GENERALLY) far higher than on Mac OS or Windows
Cons (The cons are gonna be far more personal than the pros I listed):
Driver support is far more black and white and spotty when compared to Windows. If something doesn't work out of the box, It's very likely that it won't work at all
Native app support is shit compared to even Windows 7. I use and really don't want to stop using Microsoft Office, Adobe's suite of programs, a shit ton of games, Rufus, CrystalDiskInfo and CrystalDiskMark, MSI Afterburner, Notepad2, Paint.NET and other little utilities that may not have equally good or better Linux-compatable alternatives.
Takes a lot of knowledge with CLI programs to get the most out of
Complementing the point above, Linux doesn't have many graphical applications for system-administrative tasks. For example: services.msc, devmgmt.msc, taskschd.msc and idk MSConfig don't have equivalents with at least feature-parity alternatives. I guess there's those OpenSUSE utilities but idk if they work on other distros.
It's unfamilliar. Linux is a whole different beast to Windows and is generally more of a pain to deal with
Overwhelming choice - Due to how many distros are out there and all the content covering them, it can get kinda hard to actually make a damn decision on what the hell to pick
...
Cons for Mac OS
NO
FUCK OFF
I'M NOT PAYING 3492804$$$$ TO BECOME AN ITODDLER
Even if I manage to get a hackintosh set up perfectly (which is impossible for the hardware I use on a daily basis), it's days would be numbered due to Apple moving to their own Apple Silicon ARM chips
FUCK THE WINDOW MANAGEMENT IT'S FUCKING SHIT
AHHHH!!!! NOT THE WALLED GARDEN!!! IT'S BEING BUILT AS I SPEAK no TYPE!!!
So uh, yea... as you can see, I really don't like Macs.
As for whether or not I have or will switched to Linux, well, the answers are no and maybe respectively. Right now I'm kinda just tinkering with Linux to see what it can and can't do. I just haven't really found a massive advantage that makes me willing to sacrifice at least part of the massive library of modern and classic software that only natively runs on Windows as well as manufacturer support for hardware. Oh yeah, and having to learn something entirely different from Windows
